The Tatra Mountains, Tatras or Tatra (Tatry either in Slovak (pronounced ?tatri) or in Polish (pronounced ?tatr?)- plurale tantum), are a mountain range that form a natural border between Slovakia and Poland. They are the highest mountain range in the Carpathian Mountains. The Tatras should be distinguished from the Low Tatras (Slovak: Nízke Tatry) which are located south of the Tatra Mountains in Slovakia.

The Tatra Mountains occupy an area of 785 square kilometres (303 sq mi), of which about 610 square kilometres (236 sq mi) (77.7%) lie within Slovakia and about 175 square kilometres (68 sq mi) (22.3%) on the territory of Poland. The highest peak, called Gerlach, at 2,655 m (8710 ft) is located north of Poprad. The highest point in Poland, Rysy, at 2,499 m (8200 ft) is located south of Zakopane.

Polish cuisine has evolved over the centuries to become very eclectic due to Poland's history. Polish cuisine shares many similarities with other Central European cuisines, especially German and Austrian as well as Jewish, Belarusian, Ukrainian, Russian, French and Italian culinary traditions. It is rich in meat, especially pork, chicken and beef (depending on the region) and winter vegetables (cabbage in the dish bigos), and spices. The main course usually includes a serving of meat, such as roast, chicken, or kotlet schabowy (breaded pork cutlet), vegetables, side dishes and salads, including surówka su?rufka ? shredded root vegetables with lemon and sugar (carrot, celeriac, seared beetroot) or sauerkraut (Polish: kapusta kiszona, pronounced ka?pusta k?i???na). The side dishes are usually potatoes, rice or kasza (cereals). Meals conclude with a dessert such as sernik, makowiec (a poppy seed pastry), or drożdżówka dr???d??ufka yeast pastry, and tea.

Trip to the Tatras are very often organized venture, both within the family and in schools and other institutions. Admittedly, the Tatras are the almost addictive. More and more people admit that going to this place is not just a one-time break. Many tourists come to the Tatras every year. Undoubtedly affects the tourist attractiveness of the place. Beautiful hiking trails make it really worth visiting in the area. Definitely worth to go although beautiful places in the Tatras - for example over the Sea Eye or to the Valley of the Five Lakes. Nature in this area can really truly impress every visitor.
